·        Nowadays, oral contraceptives are the most common drugs used in the treatment of women with polycystic ovary syndrome. But, normally, oral contraceptives should be used for contraception and not be used in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome.

·        Oral contraceptives are not a specific treatment for the mechanism (pathogenesis) of polycystic ovary syndrome.

·        Oral contraceptives mask the natural characteristics of menstrual cycle in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Because  women using oral contraceptives are menstruating without a growing egg and ovulation.  Although, these women already have a problem to grow  up ann egg and ovulation.

·        These women with polycystic ovary syndrome are quite sensitive to the side effects of oral contraceptives, Particulary, deep vein thrombosis, insulin resistance and weight gain.

·         The menstrual cycle is regulated by hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis. The hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis is activated approximately at 16 years old. Therefore, oral contraceptives used before the activation of HPO axis may block the maturation of HPO axis.
